The USB2CAN Triple and Combo converters include a function where the arrival time of CAN messages is measured with microsecond precision at the HW level directly in the converter. Therefore, the PP2CAN program is equipped with the Timing Accuracy tool. This tool displays the period of the set message that it receives from the CAN bus, and also displays the average, minimum, and maximum period value from the beginning of the measurement and for the last 'N' samples. The Marker input of the converter can also be used to measure the period. It then allows measuring frequencies up to approximately 6kHz. Thus, it serves as an "emergency" tool for measuring frequency or as a counter.
The tool also allows activating a function to pause the log if the period is smaller or larger than the set value. This makes it possible to capture moments when a periodic message was missed. If this occurs, the period value and the time when this happened are displayed. The logging in the PP2CAN program is also stopped at the first failure. This makes it easy to analyze in the log what happened, for example, whether the CAN bus was too congested at that moment, and so on.
