Since its inception, we have provided PP2CAN software for our converters free of charge. The software is continuously updated and supplemented with new features. Internally, however, we use a version that has some additional features that are not available to regular users. In the new version of the software, we are introducing a PREMIUM function, where we have decided to gradually make some of these features available to other users as well. However, these premium features will no longer be free, but will be charged a fee. Each feature will be charged separately. However, it is still true that 99.9% of users can work fully in this software without any limitations. Premium features are only for some special cases, where, however, this small investment will pay off.
The first premium feature we offer is a tool for storing GPS data in the CAN log. Many users use converters for measurements in vehicles, and recording GPS data of the journey is useful in some situations. If you are interested in this feature, simply click on the License button in the Help dropdown, select CAN GPS, fill in the user name and generate a code. Send us the code along with your billing information; after paying the invoice (400 CZK excluding VAT), you will receive an activation code. After entering it and restarting the program, the GPS tool will be available in the PREMIUM dropdown.
The activation code is paired with a specific computer. Transfer to another PC is possible free of charge once a year after sending a new activation code.
GPS data can be inserted into the CAN data log in three ways. The first is to store RAW data from GPS in NMEA 0183 format. The data is inserted as a Note/Marker. It is possible to select NMEA sentences that should be stored. For many uses, inserting the GNRMC sentence is sufficient. The second option is to insert decoded data such as position, speed, course, and altitude. This variant is again inserted in the form of a Marker. The third variant is inserting data as CAN data received from the CAN bus. This data is inserted in SAE J1939 format. In this case, it is also possible to insert a DateTime message. In this mode, it is also possible to activate the Transmit option. Then the data in this format is also sent to the CAN bus.
We ourselves use the GPS to USB LC23030-v2. This GPS creates a serial port in the system (sometimes it is necessary to install drivers - Prolific Driver). The manufacturer also provides an application for easy GPS setup, for example, for faster generation of NMEA sentences and the like. You can see the application in the image that follows.
